Final Stats

RUTLAND, Vt. - Sophomore forward Brooke Zaleski assisted on three goals to guide Adrian past the Castleton State College women's ice hockey team, 4-1, in non-conference action in the consolation round of the Rutland Herald Invitational (RHI) at Spartan Arena on Sunday afternoon.

Zaleski had four assists total in the tournament earning a spot on the RHI All-Tournament team.

Adrian improves to 6-8-1 overall on the season. The Spartans fall to 3-10-1.

Castleton opened up the scoring in the first taking advantage of an early power-play situation for a 1-0 lead.

Eileen Coyne snapped a backhander over the glove of Adrian goaltender Dana Timm at 3:47 for her second tally of the season. Laura Szwed was credited with an assist, her team-leading eighth point of the season.

The Bulldogs found the equalizer late in the first period on a third-chance effort goal from Stacey Kempson at 13:41. On the power play, Kempson fired a shot into the chest protector of Castleton goaltender Katharyn Dembowski. Handling the rebound, Kempson fired another shot that Dembowski turned away with a left pad save, but Kempson continued to stay with the play again, stuffing home her third chance on net tying the game at 1-1. Zaleski picked up an assist on the score her first of the game.

Midway through the second, Adrian finally broke up the tie on its second 5-on-3 power-play chance. After a slapshot from the top of the point by Danielle Maludy, teammate Olivia Rork tapped in the loose puck that trickled through Dembowski's five-hole for a 2-1 lead at 12:06. Zaleski tallied an assist on the back end of the score, her second of the contest.

Dembowski kept the Bulldogs' offense relatively at bay in the second fending off 29 shots in the period (39 total). In the third, Timm made 10 saves thwarting three Castleton 5-on-3 situations helping Adrian preserve the win. Timm ended the contest with 18 total on the afternoon.

The Bulldogs put the game on ice at 16:52, on the power-play, as Kempson pounded home a rebound off of Zaleski's stick for a 3-1 lead and her seventh goal on the season. Alysha Drouin padded the lead just 17 seconds later notching her first goal of the season.

Adrian returns home on January 16 against #10 Lake Forest (9-1-2) with the puck scheduled to drop at 7:00 p.m.
