The women's basketball team went into Tuesday night's game against Saint Mary's College trailing the Belles in the MIAA standings and could not gain ground after the Belles claimed a 67-57 win at Adrian. The Bulldogs trailed for the entire first half but did manage to tie the game at 28-28 with 1:13 left in the first half. The Belles led 32-29 at intermission.
Adrian (7-8, 3-4 MIAA) took their first lead of the game at 37-36 with 16:04 remaining in the game after a Jennifer Perrin layup. Ashley McClarren pushed the lead to 39-36 less than a minute later but it was a short lived lead. Saint Mary's took control of the game after that point as they used a 10-0 run to lead 51-40 with 9:11 to play.
Adrian could not seem to get back into the game after the big run. The Belles used a strong inside game and scored 21 points off turnovers in the second half. McClarren and Elysia Norris each had a double-double marking the first time that has happened this season. McClarren scored a team-high 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. She made nine field goals and also had three assists and two steals. Norris added 10 points and 12 boards in 28 minutes. She made three field goals and four free throws.
Adrian shot 32.4 percent for the game which was six percent under their season average. They were 3-of-12 from the arc and 10-of-16 at the foul line. The turnovers really hurt the Bulldogs as they had 23 compared to 13 for the Belles. For the game Saint Mary's had a 27-4 edge in points off turnovers.
