ADRIAN, Mich. - The men's hockey has made their fair share of history and sometimes records are just made to be broken. For the first time since November 30, 2007, the Bulldogs lost a MCHA regular season game with a 5-4 defeat on Saturday (Nov. 6) against Marian University. The loss also snapped a 30-game home win streak. The last conference loss in 2007 came against Marian as Adrian is 60-2 all-time in MCHA regular season contests.
It looked like it would remain intact early as Adrian jumped out to a 2-0 lead just 8:15 into the contest. Mike Dahlinger's first goal of the season at 1:40 on the power play gave AC a quick advantage. Jeremy Klaver and Eric Miller each had an assist as Dahlinger tapped it in after a rebound from Klaver's shot inside the right faceoff circle. Miller then put Adrian up by two at 8:15 at even strength with assists from Brad Houston and Jordan Watts. Miller flicked a backhand into the net collecting a loose puck in front.
Marian responded with two goals in a span of 3:45 in the first as Justin Cormier scored a short-handed goal at 11:07 on a breakaway and Matt Brown blasted a shot from the top of the point lower right corner on the power play at 14:52.
Marian took the lead 3-2 at 12:11 of the second period at even strength as Brendan Roberts scored his third goal of the season with assists from Cormier and Mike McCurtain. Roberts picked up the puck after a scrum to the right of Adrian's net. Adrian scored the next two goals to regain the lead 4-3. Houston scored on the power play at 13:50 of the second and 4:11 of the third at even strength for his first two goals of the season after a four-assist night on Friday. Miller assisted on the power play goal and Bobby Hineman helped out on the go-ahead goal.
Marian tied it at 4-4 at 6:32 of the third at even strength as Brendan Hull got his third goal of the series from Dakota Dubetz and Tommy Fitzpatrick. Hull took a rebound from left wing and grazed the pipe as the shot hit the back of the net. McCurtain played hero for Marian (4-1, 3-1) as he scored at even strength with just 1:10 left in the contest with an assist from Roberts. McCurtain got a loose puck and slid it under Brad Fogal who seemed to be shielded on the play. Fogal made 25 saves as Marian outshot Adrian, 30-27, for the game. Adrian was 2-for-8 on the power play while Marian was 1-for-6.
