The final score was not what the Bulldogs wanted but a silver lining was the fact that senior guard Anita Stamps reached the 1,000 point plateau at Adrian College in a 93-77 loss at Calvin College on Wednesday.
Stamps hit the 1,000 point mark exactly at the 18:49 mark of the second half on a three-pointer after going scoreless in the first half entering the game with 997 points. Stamps Is the first Adrian player in seven years to reach the 1,000 point plateau after Sarah Vincke did so in 2003. Stamps reached the milestone in her 99th game as a Bulldog. The three-pointer was the 81st of her career and she also had 365 field goals overall and 187 free throws. Stamps scored all 12 of her points against the Knights in the second half. She also had three steals and two assists in 29 minutes.
Carissa Verkaik was the story for Calvin. She set a MIAA single-game record with 46 points against the Bulldogs. She was 18-for-20 from the floor and 7-for-8 at the foul line in 33 minutes. Brook VanEck added 20 points in the frontcourt going 8-for-14 from the field. Calvin was hot from the floor going 35-for-60 (58.3%) for the game.
Stamps was one of four players in double figures for Adrian (11-12, 7-8 MIAA). Elysia Norris and Ashley McClarren each led the team with 16 points. Norris was 6-for-10 from the floor and also grabbed eight rebounds. McClarren was 5-for-10 from the floor and 6-for-8 at the line. She added eight rebounds and seven assists coming very close to a triple-double. Jennifer Perrin had 14 points, seven assists and five rebounds in 30 minutes.
