Adrian falls 64-62 at Saint Mary's

Feb. 3, 2010

Final Stats

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Saint Mary's Belles gave Adrian a chance to end things in dramatic fashion on Wednesday night by making just one-of-two at the foul line, but senior Jennifer Perrin's three-pointer with a second left was partially blocked as the Belles defeated the Bulldogs, 64-62.

The game came down to the final seven minutes as the teams were tied 53-53 at the 6:50 mark after a pair of free throws by Perrin. Saint Mary's scored the next seven points and it seemed like it was the kind of run that would seal the win. Adrian kept plugging away and trailed 62-59 with 1:34 left after another Perrin pair of free throws. The Belles inability to make free throws kept Adrian in the contest. Patsy Mahoney's split with 23 seconds left gave Saint Mary's a 63-59 advantage. Ashley McClarren was the unlikely choice to shoot a three considering she has made just three this season. She stepped up and buried the shot with 11 seconds to go to pull AC within one. After an Adrian timeout, Kelley Murphy was fouled by Elysia Norris with seven ticks on the clock. Murphy made the first but missed the second and Norris got the rebound and got an outlet pass to Perrin. She got down-court but could not convert in the final second.

Head Coach Kathy Morris will have to wait until Saturday to pick up her 200th win at Adrian College. AC (9-10, 5-6 MIAA) trailed 35-32 at the break and shot 50 percent from the floor (13-of-26). However the team was a mere 20 percent at the foul line (2-of-10). Adrian's percentage dipped to 37.5 percent in the second half but made 10-of-15 (66.7%) at the charity stripe. Adrian committed 30 turnovers which led to a 28-17 edge in points off turnovers.

Anita Stamps led the Bulldogs with 14 points going 5-of-11 from the field. Perrin added 13 points and was 6-of-6 at the foul line. All seven players scored for Adrian as Katie Ross had nine points and Norris added eight points.
