ANGOLA, Ind. - The Adrian College baseball team dropped game one, 3-2, in nine innings and then defeated Trine, 5-0, in game two to earn a split on Thursday afternoon.

Adrian took a 1-0 lead in the second inning of game one as Jake Cappelletty hit a one-out double and later scored on a two-out double by Jason Greer. The Bulldogs built their lead to 2-0 in the fifth inning as Steve Vanderheyden had a one-out single and Joe Dubina followed with a single to put two runners on first and third. Cody Meyer had an RBI groundout as the Bulldogs looked like they were going to nail down the win for starter Ryan Domschot.

Trine had other ideas as they tied the game in the fifth. The Thunder scored both runs on a two-out single. The game remained tied into extra innings as Andrew Geese relieved Domschot to start the bottom of the eighth. Domschot had a no-decision with seven innings of seven-hit ball with two earned runs, three walks and six strikeouts. Trine left two on base in the eighth and Adrian went down in order in the ninth to set up the final inning. Trine had back-to-back singles to start the rally and then Geese intentionally walked Sentman to load the bases. Dan Welch came in to pitch and Smith collected his third RBI of the game with a single to score the winning run. Geese took the loss (0-1) throwing one-plus inning and allowing two hits with two walks. Adrian left seven runners on base in game one while Trine left 11 on base. Vanderheyden, Cowart and Cappelletty each had two hits for AC.

Lancaster tied up the Thunder in knots in one of the best outings of his career. He allowed three hits, all singles, in seven innings and walked three and struck out two. Adrian saw Vanderheyden continue to try and snap out of his slump with a two-run home run, his first of the season. Vanderheyden's blast gave Adrian a 5-0 lead in the sixth inning.

The Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead in the first as Nate Sarkissian had an RBI single. AC scored two more in the third as Sarkissian had a sacrifice fly and Andrew Anderson had an RBI double. Adrian (9-7, 4-2 MIAA) had eight hits in game two as Cowart had two more hits.
