Box Score ALMA, Mich. – The Adrian College women's basketball team fell to MIAA opponent Alma College on Saturday 65-44. The loss drops the Bulldogs to 7-15 on the season and 4-11 in conference play.
Adrian held an early lead at 7-4, but the Alma defense put up a fight and held the Bulldogs offense scoreless over a nine minute period. The Scots built a lead to 23 before going into halftime with a 35-14 lead. Adrian shot just 19 percent in the first half (5-26) compared to 43 (13-30) for the Scots. Alma managed to push their lead to 31 with 5:02 left to play as the Bulldogs were unable to overcome the lead the Scots had built.
Adrian was led by a trio of freshman as Carly Tyson (Paris, Mich./Big Rapids), Senneca Scott (Livonia, Mich./Franklin) and Jayma Nihart (Edgerton, Ohio/Edgerton) went for seven, six and six respectively. Junior Kellee Wonders (Pittsford, Mich./Hudson) led the Bulldogs in rebounding, pulling down five boards. Sophomore Jasmine Byers (Detroit, Mich./Martin Luther King) had another solid game defensively as she swatted down a game-high four shots.
Alma made 25-of-34 free throws as Adrian committed 24 fouls, second most on the season.
Adrian will close out their MIAA schedule as they travel to St. Mary's on Wednesday, February 16 for a 7:30 p.m. game.
