ADRIAN, Mich. – The women's soccer team (12-3-4, 9-3-4) rallied to tie Calvin (13-4-1, 12-3-1) in the second half before losing in overtime, 2-1, Wednesday in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play. It was the first time all season the Bulldogs dropped a match at home in a game that would help determine a potential second straight league crown or slip them outside of the MIAA Tournament.

It didn't take Calvin long to get on the board, scoring just over two minutes into the match. The Knights put on early pressure and hit the crossbar on one of their first shots. The ball lingered deep in the Bulldogs' end for what seemed like an eternity before Paige Capel pushed the ball forward to Taylor Ten Harmsel, who put the Knights up 2-1.

Erin Weide scored her team-leading 18th goal of the season to tie the game at 1-1, just over six minutes into the second half. Weide went in alone on the Knights' goalkeeper and shot high above the keeper for the score.

Both teams would trade quality chances for the remainder of the second half and into the first overtime. With just 1:15 left, Kelly Koets took a pass in the middle and buried the goal in the low left corner for the overtime win.

"I have absolutely zero complaints about the effort and execution. We played extremely well throughout the second half to tie it up and push for the game winner, but couldn't manage to put that second goal in the net. We knew today was going to be a battle and unfortunately we fell a bit short, but it was not a reflection of the performance of our team. They played a phenomenal match tonight. To have a chance on the last day of the regular season to win back-to-back titles despite all of the challenges we've faced this year is a testament to the strength and determination of our team, especially our seniors. Anyone who paid attention to our league this year saw some amazing matches and a great season all the way around, in that respect I think tonight was a fitting testament to how great the MIAA is," said head coach Ali Alamdari.

Chayna Wallace made seven saves in the game and was one of eight seniors recognized by the team at halftime. The other seniors were Melissa Woolsey, Lauren Cozzi, Sam Greene, Courtney Pomeroy, Claire Phillips, Patti Vaassen, and Katie Caruso.

The Bulldogs fell into a tie for fourth place in the MIAA standings with Saint Mary's College with the loss. The Belles held a tiebreaker for the final spot in the MIAA Tournament, but had to vacate their inclusion because several team members violated team rules. Adrian will now continue their season in the MIAA Tournament semifinals and will have a rematch with the Knights on Friday, Nov. 2 in Grand Rapids beginning at 3:30 p.m. In the first semifinal, third-seeded Hope battles second-seeded Alma at 1 p.m.
