Lucky Seven's Give Baseball a Sweep of Alma

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

ADRIAN, Mich. – The cold weather did not bother the Adrian College bats on Saturday as the Bulldogs scored 14 runs in a doubleheader sweep of Alma College by the final scores of 7-3 and 7-0 at Nicolay Field.

Adrian game one starter Jason Fryman retired the first 12 batters he faced until an Ian Rhynard single to start the fifth inning. Meanwhile Adrian had built a 2-0 lead with both runs coming in the second inning. Alma committed three errors in the inning as Adrian did not record an RBI.

Alma then tied the game at 2-2 with a pair of runs in the fifth. After the Rhynard single, Alex Kravat walked and both runners moved to second and third after a Rhynard steal and a Bryn Ludlow sacrifice bunt. Blake Leddy ground-rule doubled down the left field line scoring both players.

Adrian answered the challenge with four runs in the bottom of the fifth. Adrian loaded the bases with no outs and Kyle Strawn promptly unloaded them with a triple to right field. R.J. Rios then lined out to center allowing Strawn to score the sixth run for the Bulldogs and increased their lead to four runs.

The Bulldogs tacked on a run in the sixth courtesy of a Mitch Stefanski RBI single with two outs scoring Andrew DeLuca. DeLuca hit in the two-spot of the lineup and went 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Alma cut the lead to 7-3 with a run in the seventh chasing Fryman from a complete game. Three straight Scot singles brought Brent Greenwood out of the bullpen. Greenwood fanned his first batter and then induced a game-ending double play off the bat of Micah Parshall. Fryman went six innings and improved to 4-1. He allowed three earned runs with a walk and five strikeouts in a 99-pitch outing.

Game two showed the continued emergence of sophomore Rylie Robinson for the Bulldogs. Robinson improved to 3-1 with a complete game, two-hit shutout and lowered his season ERA to 1.20. He allowed a double to Leddy and a single to Rhynard while walking none and striking out four. Anthony Derrer yielded six earned runs in three innings of work to take the loss (0-4).

Garrett Green went 3-for-3 with a run and two runs driven in during the nightcap. He had a two-run scoring single in the third inning when the Bulldogs put five runs on the board. Strawn belted his second homer of the season, a no-doubter over the wall in left field to lead off the second. Dom Pompey also drove in a pair of runs in the third with a single up the middle to make it 6-0.

Adrian's final run came in the fourth as Sam Fischer doubled down the left field line with one out and later scored on a wild pitch on a swinging strikeout. Adrian collected 10 hits in game two with three extra-base hits. The two teams will play twice more tomorrow afternoon in Alma.
