Sroka's Five RBI Pace Bulldogs in Sweep of Albion

ADRIAN, Mich. – Senior Mitch Sroka made the most of his opportunity playing first base on Saturday as he collected four RBI in game one and one more in game two as the Bulldog baseball team defeated Albion by the scores of 11-2 and 5-3 at Nicolay Field.

Sroka entered the game with seven RBI for the season and also had one triple in each game. He stepped to the plate in game one during the bottom of the first with the bases loaded and lined a ball in the left center gap scoring three in a five-run first for the Bulldogs. Adrian also scored four times in the fourth in game one. Andrew DeLuca drew a bases loaded walk and Kyle Strawn singled home two with a single through the left side.

Adrian chased Albion starter Brett Timmer after 3.1 innings in game one. He gave up five hits and 10 runs (seven earned) with three walks and two strikeouts. His counterpart for Adrian was freshman Eric Schmidt. Schmidt improved to 3-0 with a 2.65 ERA for the season by going all seven innings and allowing five hits and two runs. He walked one and struck out two in a 71-pitch outing.

DeLuca went 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBI in game one. Strawn was 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBI. Mitch Stefanski also drove in a run for the Bulldogs.

Game two was a tight contest as Albion scored first with a run in the top of the first against starter Austin Buchmayer. Buchmayer gave up his first earned run of the season in the fourth inning stopping his streak at 19 innings. He improved to 3-0 on the season with a 0.84 ERA. Buchmayer went six innings and allowed nine hits and two earned runs. He also walked one and struck out three in a 92-pitch outing.

Adrian scored three times in the bottom of the first to take a 3-1 lead. Stefanski had an RBI infield single to tie the game. Garrett Green then had a two-out, two-run scoring single to center to give Adrian a two-run lead. Adrian added two runs in the third to extend their lead to 5-1. Sroka tripled home Strawn with Adrian's fourth run and Green collected his third RBI of the game with a single through the left side of the infield for a four-run cushion.

Albion scored single runs in the fourth and sixth to cut the lead down to 5-3. Lucas Willitzer replaced Buchmayer in the top of the seventh and allowed a leadoff single to Davin Montgomery. Montgomery was erased on a fielder's choice off the bat of Chuck DeClarke. DeClarke took second on a wild pitch and Ben Gould flied out to right for the second out. Willitzer picked up his first save of the season when John Gignac hit a foul pop into the glove of second baseman Green to end the game.

Albion outhit Adrian 10-8 in game two as Brendan Diamond, Montgomery and Gould each had two hits. Pete Salens went six innings in the loss for Albion (1-4) allowing eight hits with three walks and five strikeouts.
