Bulldogs Win Top 15 Battle at Geneseo

Box Score

GENESEO, N.Y. – The men's hockey team played a rare Tuesday night road game out of conference for the first time this season with a 5-1 win over Geneseo State in a battle of top 15 teams according to USCHO.com. The fifth-ranked Bulldogs built a 4-0 lead after two periods against the 15th-ranked Knights and cruised to a 5-1 win at Wilson Ice Arena. Ranalli upped his season total to 10 goals which leads NCAA Division III. He scored a total of 18 goals all of his sophomore year. Ranalli's ninth came at 5:13 on the power play with Josh Cousineau getting an assist. Senior captain Zach Wilson scored his second of the season at 14:48 from Kevin Balas and Pat George. Basso increased the lead to 4-0 with the second period's lone goal at 12:46 on the power play. Basso's third of the season was assisted by Shelby Gray and Ryan Lowe. Adrian outshot Geneseo State 13-8 in the second stanza.

Justin Scharfe ended the shutout hopes at 9:40 of the third period from David Ripple and Matt Solomon on the power play. Freshman Jeremy Olinyk scored his first goal for the Bulldogs at 14:47 from fellow freshman Jake Flegel. The Knights kicked up the offense in the third with a 19-9 edge in shots on goal.

James Hamby improved to 6-0 this season and 25-3-1 in his career by stopping 33 shots. Adrian went 2-for-5 on the power play and now is tied with Elmira for the national lead with 12 power play tallies.
