Bulldogs Sweep Season Series over Siena Heights in Rout

Box Score

ADRIAN, Mich. – In the second meeting of the season for Adrian College and Siena Heights University, it was a huge nine-run fifth inning which broke open a close game and allowed the Bulldogs to claim a 17-1 win over the Saints. The nine-run inning was the largest of the season for Adrian and the 16-run margin also was one short of tying the season-high.

The Bulldogs defeated their cross-town rival for the seventh time in the last eight matchups and head coach Craig Rainey now has a 10-3 record against John Kolasinski of Siena Heights. Adrian scored a 14-6 win back on April 4 at SHU and pounded 16 hits in that game. The Bulldogs accounted for 13 hits in tonight's contest and had at least one hit in five of eight times at bat. Stephen Fisher took the loss for the Saints (1-3) going four innings and allowing two runs (one earned) with three strikeouts. Jeff Davis got the win for Adrian (2-0) going six innings and allowing three hits and no earned runs with a walk and seven strikeouts.

Siena Heights actually scored the first run of the game before Adrian ran off 17 straight runs. The Bulldogs took advantage of nine walks and three Saint errors. Adrian led 2-1 after four innings and then rapped five hits in the fifth to take the 11-1 lead. The Bulldogs scored 19 runs in the fifth all season coming into the game.

In the fifth, Andrew DeLuca had a RBI single and later scored on a wild pitch. Ben Yax had a RBI single and DeLuca came up again and doubled home a run. Jeff Gertley also had a RBI double in the inning. Adrian tacked on two runs in the sixth and four more in the seventh. Sam Fischer led off the sixth with a towering home run to left field, his team-leading sixth of the season. Yax also drew a bases-loaded walk to push across another run.

In the seventh, the big hit came off the bat of Garrett Green. Green drove a 3-2 pitch to the left center gap for three RBI's scoring Cody Meyer, Jake Gilstorff and Jamey Sackett. DeLuca finished 2-for-3 with two runs and three RBI's. Fischer went 2-for-3 with three runs scored, a triple and a walk. R.J. Rios came off the bench to go 2-for-3 with two runs and his second double of the season. Adrian gets back to conference play tomorrow by going to Olivet for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
