Bulldogs Even Record with 74-70 Loss to Kalamazoo

ADRIAN, Mich. - The women's basketball team could not recover from a poor first half on Saturday as they fell 74-70 to Kalamazoo College in their first home action since Dec. 14. The Bulldogs shot 28.1 percent in the first half and allowed 57.1 percent shooting by the Hornets trailing 36-25 at the break. In the second half, the Bulldogs outscored Kalamazoo 45-38 and improved their shooting percentage to 44.7 percent going 17-of-38 from the floor. The Hornets shot just 30.8 percent from the floor in the final 20 minutes. Kalamazoo won the game at the free throw line going 29-of-38 including 19-of-25 in the second half. The 38 free throws were an opponent's season-high eclipsing 30 taken against Ohio Northern. The fouls were 27-16 against the Bulldogs for the contest.

Kalamazoo built their largest lead of the game in the second half of 14 points with 9:20 remaining before Adrian began to put some pressure on the Hornets. The Bulldogs cut the lead to six points, 62-56, with 4:02 left on a jumper by TraeVie Shelton in the paint. The lead was further cut down to five, 67-62, with 1:07 remaining after a layup by Lauren Rhoads. The Hornets continued to make free throws down the stretch but held just a three-point lead with five seconds to go before Perri Nicholson iced it away making her second of two free throws.

Adrian dominated in the paint in the second half outscoring the Hornets, 28-8. The Bulldogs were playing from behind most of the game which featured one tie and two lead changes early in the contest. LaQwana Dockery etched a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Rhoads added 12 points scoring in double figures for the fifth time this season including the last three games. Antoinea McElroy chipped in 11 points, three rebounds and two steals in 19 minutes. Adrian is now 6-6 overall and 2-2 in the MIAA.
