Greenwood Shines in Split with Albion

ADRIAN, Mich. – The baseball team took three out of four games this weekend against Albion College to open MIAA action including a split of games on Saturday at Nicolay Field. The four-game series was played entirely in Adrian due to Albion's field not being ready for play. The Bulldogs took game one by the final of 6-0 behind a complete game from Brent Greenwood. The Britons returned the favor in game two as Michael Fischbach hit a two-out, walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh. Albion was designated as the home team for both games due to the site change.

Greenwood had one of his best outings in a Bulldog uniform in game one's win. He tossed seven shutout innings and allowed five hits with no walks and nine strikeouts. He needed 97 pitches (69 strikes) to shut down the Britons and lowered his season earned run average to 2.05 in the process. Matt Temrowski got the start for Albion and threw 4.1 innings in the loss. He allowed eight hits and just two earned runs with six walks and a strikeout.

Adrian scored once in the second, four times in the third and once again in the fifth. Zach Kolvey had a RBI single in the second to open the scoring. Ryan Dorow had a RBI single to plate Adrian's second run. Drew Shutes and Dan Heatherly both walked with two outs in the third and then Mitch Stefanski hit a three-run towering home run to right to give Adrian a 5-0 lead. Ben Yax had a RBI single in the fifth to plate the final run of the game. Dorow went 2-for-3 with a walk and Kolvey went 2-for-4.

Adrian let the Britons hang around in the nightcap and they stole one, 4-3, after a walk-off home run by Michael Fischbach. He stepped to the plate with two outs and hit a 1-0 pitch over the right field wall for his third of the season. Both starters were part of a no-decision as Adrian's Holden Branch threw five innings and Albion's Nate Brubaker tossed four innings. Branch left the game in a 3-3 tie after five innings and allowed one earned run with four walks and a strikeout. Brubaker allowed five hits and two earned runs with a pair of walks and strikeouts.

Zach Maresh improved to 1-1 going the final three innings for Albion. He allowed no hits with two walks and two strikeouts in a 51-pitch effort with 30 strikes. Greg Sombati (0-2) offered up the home run in the seventh. He threw 1.2 innings and that was the only hit he gave up.

Dorow had another multi-hit game going 2-for-4 with his seventh double. Adrian had just five hits in game two as Shutes had his sixth double and Sam Fischer hit his third home run of the season. Adrian scored twice in the third after the first two batters were out. Fischer hit a solo home run to center and then Dorow and Shutes had back-to-back doubles.

Adrian's third run was scored in the fourth to take a 3-2 lead. Corleone Desimone singled with one out and stole second. Ian Mikowski grounded out to first moving Desimone to third and Fischer grounded one to shortstop which was misplayed for the run to score. Davin Montgomery went 2-for-4 in game two as the lone Brit with multiple hits. Adrian batted .303 in the series as Dorow went 6-for-14 (.429). Desimone went 5-for-9 (.556) with three runs.
