Bulldogs Toss Second Shutout of the Weekend against North Central (Ill.)

Box Score

WESTFIELD, Ind. – The Adrian College baseball team capped off a 3-0 weekend with another shutout of North Central (Ill.) by the final of 5-0 on Sunday. Jordan Frayer tossed eight scoreless innings and allowed just two singles. He gave up a single to the first hitter of the day and also a leadoff hit to start the fourth. The Cardinals left just two runners on base while the Bulldogs could have made a bigger impact on the scoreboard as they stranded 11 runners.

Frayer was on mark with no walks and struck out five in his first win of the season (1-1). Jake Rone (0-1) took the loss for North Central going 7.1 innings but allowed three earned runs with seven walks and three strikeouts. Adrian (7-3) scored in the bottom of the second as Drew Shutes walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Miccoy Drzewiecki also drew a walk followed by a Brian Guck bunt single to load the bases. Hayden Craig bounced into a fielder's choice to score Shutes for the 1-0 lead.

Adrian held that slim advantage into the bottom of the eighth and opened it up with four runs. Shutes again drew a walk to start the inning and John Joseph pinch hit dropping down a bunt single. Guck sacrificed on a bunt to move both runners into scoring position. Rone was lifted for Austin Ebeling and Adrian countered with Collin Parcher off the bench. Parcher won the battle as he doubled to right center giving AC a 3-0 lead. North Central went back to the bullpen with Steve Lemm and got a pop out for the second out. Senior Ben Yax then took Lemm deep to left field for a two-run home run and a 5-0 lead.

Tommy Eng came on to pitch for the second time this season in the ninth and allowed a leadoff single. He then induced a fielder's choice and a ground ball double play to end the contest. The Cardinals managed just three total hits on the game. Shutes scored a pair of runs and walked three times. Josh Knorr also reached base twice on walks. No one had multiple hits for the Bulldogs and the bottom third of the lineup drove in all five runs.
