Bulldogs Split with Anderson on the Diamond

PRICEVILLE, Ala. – The Adrian College baseball team split a pair of games against Anderson (Ind.) University on Sunday and currently stand at 4-3 overall this season. The Bulldogs won game one by the score of 6-3 and then fell 11-1 in game two against the Ravens.

Adrian trailed 1-0 until they scored two runs in the third inning. Collin Parcher reached on an error and drove in a run in the process and Tommy Eng followed with a RBI single. Anderson regained the lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth against reliever Collin Korte. Tyler Gnodtke got the final two outs of the sixth as the Ravens led 3-2 with one more at-bat for the Bulldogs. The heart of the order stepped up in the top of the seventh as Jeff Gertley and Ryan Dorow hit back-to-back home runs off reliever Nicholas Nunez to start the inning. The Bulldogs built their lead with two more runs as Eng had a RBI groundout scoring Drew Shutes and Dakota Cararo had a RBI single scoring Josh Knorr. Cody Hamilton entered the bottom of the seventh and picked up his second save with a scoreless inning of work.

Jordan Frayer got the start and went 4.2 innings allowing two hits and one unearned run. Gertley went 2-for-3 with a walk, double and home run. Dorow had three hits in four at-bats with two runs scored. The Bulldogs did a great job of putting the ball in play with just one strikeout.

Anderson jumped out with six runs in the second inning of game two and cruised to the 11-1 win. Cole Knaup could not make it out of the second but just one of his six allowed runs was earned. The Ravens scored twice in the third off Shane Healy and one more in the fourth but again errors led to unearned runs. Adrian pushed across their lone run in the bottom of the sixth. Shutes had a RBI single in the inning which scored Gertley.

The Bulldogs did have seven hits in game two and stranded six runners. Gertley had a double in three at-bats and it was the only extra-base hit for Adrian. Cody Brock had a very strong start for Anderson going six innings with no walks and four strikeouts. Zach Dunn and Zach Leach each pitched a scoreless outing out of the bullpen.
