Bulldogs Split Final Regular Season Games at Calvin

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The regular season came to a close on Saturday for the Bulldog baseball team at Calvin College. Adrian (30-10, 23-5 MIAA) took three out of four in the series with the Knights after splitting a pair with a 13-2 win and 8-4 loss.

The bats came alive in game one for the Bulldogs with 13 runs and 16 hits off three Calvin pitchers. Adrian scored three times in the fourth, once in the fifth, twice in the sixth and seven times in the seventh. Drew Shutes finished with three RBI including a double. Ryan Dorow went 2-for-4 with a double and RBI. Miccoy Drzewiecki tore it up going 4-for-4 with a double and home run. He scored twice and drove in three runs. Frank Resto got the start at catcher and responded with two doubles in four at-bats with two runs scored and two RBI. John Joseph continued his hot series going 3-for-3 with two runs and three RBI. Tommy Parsons got the start improving to 7-1. He tossed five innings and allowed one earned run with four strikeouts.

Calvin salvaged the final game of the series in game two. The Knights led 2-0 after the first inning against Adrian starter Shane Healy. Adrian responded with a run in the second and three more in the third to take a 4-2 lead. Calvin came right back with four runs in the bottom of the third off reliever Cole Knaup who took the loss (0-2). Ryan Stewart was the second hurler for Calvin and got the win (4-1). He threw 3.1 innings and allowed just one hit with three walks and one punchout.

Tyler Gnodtke and Trevor Stevens each threw one scoreless inning in relief for the Bulldogs. Shutes, Dorow, Gunnar Glodich and Jeff Gertley each had a double with Gertley smacking a pair of two-baggers. Shutes, Dorow, Drzewiecki and Matt Andrus each had a RBI in game two. The Bulldogs left nine runners on base.

Adrian will now gear up for the MIAA Tournament which gets underway on Wednesday, May 6 at Nicolay Field. The top-seeded Bulldogs will play fourth-seeded Kalamazoo at 4 p.m. Adrian took three of four in the season series against a pesky Hornet squad that gave Adrian their toughest MIAA series of the season.
