#2 Bulldogs Drop 3-2 Overtime Decision at Northland

ASHLAND, Wis. - The Adrian College women's hockey team suffered its first loss of the 2017-18 season as Northland upset the No. 2 Bulldogs 3-2 in overtime. Adrian rallied back, scoring twice in the third period to force overtime. Jacqueline White scored the tying goal to get Adrian back into the game and force overtime.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Samantha Scott put the Lumberjills ahead at the 9:35 mark of the opening period when she scored off an assist from Robyn Matula. The score would remain 1-0 in favor of Northland through the first period.

Amanda Abounader gave the Jills a 2-0 cushion when she scored on the power play off an assist from Kylie Fahmer with just over 10 minutes remaining in the second period. 

Down 2-0 in the third, the Bulldogs increased the pressure and were finally able to put the puck in the net at 6:55 of the final period of regulation. Brianna Buchanan scored to cut the Northland lead in half off assists from Tory Harshman and Kortney Diaz. Jacqueline White tied the game at 12:55 of the third, tying the game on a Bulldog power play. She was assisted on the goal by Kelly O'Sullivan and Olivia Fox.

Allyson Reilly was the hero for the Lumberjills as she scored the game-winner just 41 seconds into the overtime period to give Northland the 3-2 win.

TOP DOGS

• Buchanan and White were the goal scorers for Adrian. Buchanan's goal was her first of the season; White scored her third of the year in the game.

• Harshman (2 assists this season), Diaz (1st assist of season), O'Sullivan (4th), and Fox (1st) each tallied one assist in the losing effort.

THE OPPOSITION

• Scott, Abounader, and Reilly each scored a goal for Northland.

• Gabby Suhr made 64 saves in the game (.970 SV%) to propel the Jills to the win.

STREAK ENDED

With the win, Northland snaps a 32-game regular season conference unbeaten streak dating all the way back to 2015.

Adrian will travel to face Trine on Friday, November 10. The opening faceoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m., ET.
