Bulldogs Baseball Drops 10-3 Decision at Berry College in First Loss of the Season

MOUNT BERRY, Ga.--Host Berry College used a six-run fifth inning to earn a 10-3 comeback victory over the previously undefeated Adrian College baseball team on Saturday afternoon. 

THE BASICS
= Final Scoreline: Berry 10-14-1, Adrian 3-9-3

= Location: William R. Bowdoin Field, Rome, Ga.; Weather: Clear, 62 degrees, Wind S 9 mph

= Records: Berry Vikings--8-4 overall; Adrian Bulldogs--3-1 overall

TOP 'DAWGS
= Juniors Dugan Darnell, Chad Paddock and sophomore Tristin Richardson (double) had two hits apiece to pace Adrian.

= Junior Jordan Torrento chipped in a double. 

THE OPPOSITION
= Zack Walch went 3-for-3, including a double, with three runs scored along with a walk.

= Spence Johns was 2-for-5 with three runs batted in. 

= Jacob Delk, Quinn Smith and Devin Post also had two hits apiece. Smith had two RBI.

= Ben Coker (W, 3-1) started seven innings while allowing two runs (1 earned), six hits and a walk. He recorded seven strikeouts.

HOW IT HAPPENED
= Berry outhit Adrian 14 to nine.

= Things started well enough for the Bulldogs, who led 2-0 by the fourth inning. Senior Frank Resto had a RBI-single to left field in the top of the second inning to stake Adrian a 1-0 lead. Two frames later, Richardson doubled, then stole third base and would score on an error by the center fielder.

= Johns put the Vikings ahead to stay, 3-2, with a two-run single to left-center field as part of a six-run frame in the fifth. Berry scored four other runs on a throwing error, twice on a RBI-groundout and a single.

= Berry scored four more insurance runs over the next three innings.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
= Berry takes a 2-1 lead in the all-time series that started in 2015. The Vikings also won last season, 4-2, on Feb. 26.

UP NEXT
= Adrian continues its southern spring break tour on Sunday against Marietta College on the Berry College campus, starting at noon.
