@AdrianBaseball Salvages MIAA Road Doubleheader at Calvin College, 0-4 and 6-4

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.— Adrian College took advantage of some defensive miscues in the top of the ninth inning to defeat host Calvin College, 6-4, in the second game of a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association baseball doubleheader on Thursday. The Knights won 4-0 in the opener to snap the Bulldogs' season-long nine-game winning streak.

TOP 'DAWGS
= Senior Hunter Hayes continued his home run hitting ways in the nightcap, crushing a three-run blast to give Adrian a 4-2 lead in the third. He finished the day with two hits.

 = Junior Korey Mazur had a triple and double with a RBI in the second game.  

= Sophomore Gunner Rainey had two hits between the two games.

= Freshman relief pitcher Mo Hanley improved to 2-0 with a terrific outing in Game 2. In 4-2/3 innings of work, he allowed three hits, two walks and a run with a career-high seven strikeouts.

THE OPPOSITION
= Jonathan Keane (W, 2-1) shut out Adrian on a two-hitter in the first game. He allowed two singles and a pair of walks with eight strikeouts while going the distance.

= Nate DeZwaan was 3-for-7 on the day with two runs batted in. 

= In Game 2, Ricky Padilla was 3-for-4 with two runs scored.

= Also in the nightcap, Quinn Hyndiuk had two hits and Ryan Pena matched him with a pair of doubles.

HOW IT HAPPENED, Game 1
= Pena homered in the bottom of the second inning to give Keane all the offense he would need.

= In the next frame, the Knights added three insurance runs on a Bulldogs error and a DeZwaan two-run single.

= Adrian put a runner in scoring position in the second and fifth innings, but couldn't push across a run. 

HOW IT HAPPENED, Game 2
= Tied 4-4, Adrian scored twice after two outs in the top of the ninth. Freshman Sean O'Keefe doubled to right center with one out. Junior Jordan Torrento would eventually score on a wild pitch. On that same play, junior Justin McMann also scored on a throwing error by the catcher after he reached on a walk.

= In the home half, Hanley worked around some trouble after giving up two hits and surviving an error. He got out of the jam with two strikeouts and a nice relay throw from left field to cut down Sam Schellenberg at the plate that would have been the fifth CC run.

= Calvin tied it 4-4 in the eighth when Padilla scored on a wild pitch.

= Adrian trailed 2-0 after the first inning before getting a run back in the second with a Rainey RBI-ground out and three more in the next inning on Hayes' third homer in four games. The Bulldogs took a 4-2 advantage.

= Pena hit a two-run double in the first inning as both runs were unearned off AC sophomore starter Daniel McMichael (4.1 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 SO).

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
= Adrian improves to 93-75 all-time against Calvin, including 43-38 on the Knights home field.

= The Knights snapped a 10-game losing streak in the series with their four-run win, previously winning 8-4 at home on May 2, 2015.

UP NEXT
= These same two teams travel to Adrian on Friday to play a twilight doubleheader at Nicolay Field, starting at 4 p.m.
