Jordan Torrento Keys Baseball Conquering of Host Berry Vikings, 12-1

ROME, Ga.--Senior Jordan Torrento went 2-for-4 and tied his career high with four runs batted in, and junior Pierce Banks pitched seven terrific innings, to power Adrian to a 12-1 non-conference victory over host Berry, snapping the Vikings' five-game winning streak.

TOP 'DAWGS
= Torrento had a triple and home run to go along with two runs scored and a walk from the No. 9 position in the batting order. 

= Banks (2-0) allowed five hits, a walk and a run with six strikeouts on the mound. He threw 96 pitches, 61 for strikeouts.

= Torrento was one of six Bulldogs to record two hits: seniors Zack Zschering, Dugan Darnell (double), Korey Mazur (double), junior Gunner Rainey (double) and sophomore Brandon Cooper.

= Rainey matched Torrento with four RBI and Zschering chipped in two.

FOR THE OPPOSITION
= Quinn Smith went 2-for-3, including a double, to pace the Berry offense.

= Spence Johns, Zach Huie and pinch-hitter Hunter Cole each drew a walk.

HOW IT HAPPENED
= Adrian gave Banks all the offense they would need in the top of the second inning with three runs on four hits. Junior Brady Wood, Darnell and Mazur strung together three singles before senior Brandon Baldus hit a sacrifice fly to center field to bring home Wood for the game's first run. After a second out, Torrento tripled to right-center field to drive in a pair of runs.

= Torrento led off the sixth with a solo home run down the right field line to make it 6-0.

= The Bulldogs blew the game wide open with three runs in the next frame for a 9-0 cushion. Zschering had a two-run single.

= In the ninth, Rainey cleared the bases loaded with a double to the gap in right-center.

= In the eighth, the Vikings ruined AC's combined shutout bid when Devin Post hit an infield single to shortstop, scoring pinch-runner Gavin Booker from third base after he had advanced on a wild pitch.

= The Bulldogs outhit the Vikings 15 to five and the hosts committed four errors.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
= Torrento also had four RBI versus Denison on March 17, 2018, and Rainey establishes a personal record with his four-RBI performance today.

= In his last three outings, Rainey is 7-for-17 at the plate with nine RBI.

= Adrian, which averages 11.67 runs as one of the NCAA's top offenses, has scored at least 12 runs in three consecutive games since 2010.

= Junior RHP Spencer Ford, who was the first reliever today, hasn't allowed a run in his last five appearances (5.2 innings) dating back to last season.

= Adrian evens the all-time series against Berry, 2-2. The Vikings won last season's meeting by a 10-3 score.
