ADRIAN, Mich. - The Adrian women's hockey team saw a lot of Trine University during the 2020-21 campaign. In fact, the Bulldogs and the Thunder met seven times, making up half of the rivals' 14 meetings all-time.
The cross-state foes will see each other once again this weekend, beginning with an evening bout in Indiana on Friday before returning to Adrian on Saturday.
Trine (1-5, 0-2 NCHA) has dropped its last five contests since defeating Stevenson back on October 29, including its first two conference games at Concordia-Wisconsin this past weekend.
Brandi Wilson, the Thunder's leading point scorer, contributed three assists and one goal during the team's opening homestand. Over her last four outings, however, the senior is averaging only a point per game.
Wilson is one of 18 returners for Trine who played against Adrian last season. One of those names, Theresa DiMaggio, led the Thunder with three assists and one goal versus the black and gold. No other returnees mustered more than one point across seven meetings with the Bulldogs, as the locals heavily outscored their rival 38-4 last season.
In net, freshman Ryleigh Furlong has been the Thunder's go-to, having made four starts and five total appearances between the pipes.
She has played the third-most minutes of any goaltender in the conference, compiling 110 saves, a 2.59 goals-against average and a 0.909 save-percentage in 255 minutes.
As for Adrian (4-1, 2-0 NCHA), the ninth-ranked 'Dogs are rolling on a three-game shutout streak that includes a two-game sweep of league-opponent Marian.
The local's offense is led by
Karmen Anderson with three goals and three assists and
Reaghan Pietrowski,
Brooke Schembri and
Jessica VonRuden, who each have two goals and four assists.
Une Bjelland, who is projected to return to the Bulldogs' line-up this weekend after competing with Team Norway, and
Jocelin Hudanish are actively tied with Anderson for the team lead with three goals each.
At the heart of Adrian's current shutout stretch is the goaltending duo of
Sophie Goldberg (0.60 GAA, 0.973 Sv%) and
Denisa Jandova (0.68 GGA, 0.965 Sv%). Entering this weekend, the pair are ranked first and second in the NCHA, respectively in both goals-against average and save-percentage.
The first of this series' games will take place on Friday night at 7 p.m. at the Thunder Ice Arena in Angola. Then, the two sides will return north to the Arrington Ince Arena for another 7 p.m. puck-drop on Saturday.
Live stats and video will be available for both contests.
