ADRIAN, Mich. - At the Merillat Sport and Fitness Center,
Kiaya Warner turned in a career-high 16 points for the Adrian women's basketball team, but it was not enough to fend off a balanced Alma offense, ultimately resulting in a 67-57 loss for the home team.
Warner, a sophomore, tallied seven of her personal-best in the games opening three-and-a-half minutes as part of 13-0 Bulldog run to begin the game.
Chelsea Palmer, who finished the evening with a 12-point, 10-rebound double-double, chipped in four points during that stretch, helping the black and gold start the evening 6-of-7 from the field.
Despite the electric start, the visitors eventually found their rhythm with a 9-3 stretch to close out the first frame.
In the second quarter, after an Alma free throw, the 'Dogs rallied off five-straight points to restore their double-digit cushion, punctuated by a
Bailey Taylor three-pointer.
Nevertheless, the Scots continued to steadily crawl back into contention, eventually taking their first lead of the night in the final minute of the half, only to have it erased just as quickly by Warner jump shot.
In the final half of regulation, Alma hit their stride, closing the evening with 44 points in the paint and 21 points off of fastbreaks.
The Bulldogs could only pull as close as six points within the lead in the final frame, as the Scots continued to deliver response after response to everything Adrian muscled on the other end.
Makayla Clement contributed nine points for the black and gold, while Taylor had a respectable showing of six points and eight rebounds.
The 'Dogs face a quick turnaround as they will host Olivet next on Wednesday evening at 7:30 p.m.
