ADRIAN, Mich. -- The No. 14 Adrian College baseball team heads down south again as they travel to Greensboro, North Carolina for three games. The Bulldogs will take on Greensboro College in two games followed by William Peace University for one. The Bulldogs sit 4-3 on the season and fell from No. 4 to No. 14 in the latest D3baseball.com poll after a trio of losses during the team's tough early season schedule.
The Bulldogs traveled to Alabama and Georgia to begin the year as they began the season with RV University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and Centre College which resulted in wins. The team's first loss came in game three against Birmingham Southern College who ranked No. 3 in the country at the time. Adrian went on to put up 16 runs against Piedmont to grab another victory before falling the next day to RV Berry College. The Bulldogs then defeated Greensboro before struggling to end the trip in a loss to No. 25 Denison University.
This weekend will be the second time this season the Bulldogs have seen Greensboro after defeating them 16-1 last Saturday.
Maxwell Denny went 8.1 innings that day allowing just one run on two hits with six strikeouts.
AJ Miranda and
Ryan Davis homered during the blowout while
Kevin Cardentey had himself a three-hit afternoon. Don Goods,
Thomas Miller, Miranda,
Andrew Atherton, and
Nathan Mix also had a multi-hit game. All of Adrian's scoring came later in the game as they recorded at least three runs in innings fourth through seventh.
Thomas Miller leads the team this season with a .407 batting average in seven games this season. He has recorded 11 hits with one double, two triples, and home run, and 13 RBIs.
Aaron Valentine comes into the weekend with a .385 batting average in six games this year followed by a .364 average from
Don Goodes who leads the team with 12 hits this season.
Maxwell Denny leads the starting rotation with a 3.46 ERA and a .75 WHIP in 13 innings. Denny leads the pitching staff with 10 strikeouts this season with opponents hitting .111 against him.
Austin Frederick has a start this season as he holds a 3.52 ERA followed by
Michael Swanson who has a 3.86 ERA in three appearances with one start.
This is the second and third time in program history that Adrian will face Greensboro while this will be the first time that William Peace and Adrian have gone to battle.Â
Greensboro comes into the week with a 3-5 record to start the year while William Peace sits at 8-4Â and come into the weekend on a three-game winning streak.
The Bulldogs will open up the weekend on Friday, March 11 at 4:00 PM against Greensboro followed by a 2:00 PM rematch on Saturday. Adrian will end the weekend with an 11:00 AM game against William Peace on Sunday before heading back home.
