Baseball Holds Home Opener Wednesday Followed by Home Game Saturday

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Adrian College baseball team will host its first home game of the 2022 season on Wednesday, March 16 at 5:00 PM where they take on crosstown rival Siena Heights University. The Bulldogs will then be tasked with a two-game series against Heidelberg University starting on Saturday at home followed by a road game on Sunday.

Adrian comes into the week with a 5-4 record on the year after wrapping up a pair of trips to warmer weather. The Bulldogs traveled to Alabama and Georgia during spring break for seven games before heading to North Carolina where they faced Greensboro and William Peace. After a 14-4 victory on Friday against Greensboro, the scheduled game two of the series was canceled due to weather. The weekend resumed on Sunday where the Bulldogs face William Peace dropping the contest 9-7.

The most recent d3baseball.com Top-25 poll was released on Tuesday morning with Adrian sitting at No. 19 after falling five spots from No. 14 where they say last week.

Transfer Don Goodes has been leading the team at the plate with a .405 batting average in eight games. Goodes has racked up 15 hits with three doubles, two triples, and a homer to go with nine RBIs and 11 runs scored.Aaron Valentine holds a batting average of .381 in eight games with eight hits with a double and five RBIs. Thomas Miller comes into the week leading the team in multiple categories including runs score, triples, RBIs, and walks. In nine games this season, Adrian has hit nine home runs with the help of three from AJ Miranda and two from Easton Rogers.

Maxwell Denny leads the pitching staff with three starts on the year racking up a 4.50 ERA. Denny has pitched a team-high 16 innings to go with a team-high 12 strikeouts while opponents hit just .186 off him. Austing Frederick has pitched 10.1 innings this season with a 4.35 ERA in three appearances with one start. Jacob Hanoian sits on the tail end of the bullpen with the team's only save and an opponent batting average of just .091.

Adrian was faced with tough compeition to begin the year before returning home for the opener. Siena Heights comes in with a 4-12 record on the year while Heidelberg enters the week 5-5.

First pitch for Wednesday will take place at 5:00 PM at Nicolay Field between the Bulldogs and the Saints. Adrian will then have a couple days off before taking on Heidelberg at home on Saturday, March 19 at 2:00 PM.
