ADRIAN, Mich. - No surprises here, the Adrian College men's NCAA hockey team was voted the unanimous No. 1 in the USCHO.com Division III postseason poll, officials announced on Monday afternoon.
The Bulldogs made their fair share of history during the 2021-22 season. After a season-opening loss at Utica College, the black and gold ran the table with 31 consecutive victories, including a perfect 18-0-0 record against Northern Collegiate Hockey Association opponents, and a flawless 15-0-0 mark at Arrington Ice Arena. Along the way, the team captured the program's 13th Peters Cup, 9th Harris Cup, and most recently, the first NCAA National Championship by any team in the school's existence.
For their efforts, the 'Dogs secured all 20 possible first-place votes in the season's final poll for the fifth-straight week and ninth week overall.
National runner-up Geneseo fell in at No. 2, followed by national semifinalist No. 3 Augsburg, No. 4 Utica, and the other national semifinalist, fifth-ranked University of New England. The Nor'easters were the biggest movers from their pre-tournament position, jumping three spots from No. 8 after making an unlikely run to Lake Placid.
Babson, Hobart, St. Norbert, Elmira and Wilkes rounded out the top ten from sixth on down, and Wisconsin-Stevens Point, Trinity, Endicott, Oswego and Plymouth State held on to their spots in the top 15, coming in at 11th through 15th in that order.
Fellow NCHA programs Aurora and Trine were listed as "receiving votes."
The Adrian men's NCAA hockey team is inviting everyone to celebrate their national championship with them on Tuesday, March 29 at 6 p.m. at Arrington Ice Arena. Admission to the venue will be free for all!
