ADRIAN, Mich. - At the Merillat Fieldhouse, the Adrian women's tennis team won its second conference-match in three days, defeating Olivet College convincingly, 9-0.
Thursday's result marks the Bulldogs' (8-9, 3-3 MIAA) second clean-sweep of the season. They also knocked off Manchester University by a nine-point margin back on September 5.
The rout got off to a hot start in doubles competition, with
Vasiliki Gargasoulas and
Jamie Nicholls winning their first-ever bout as a pair, 8-0.
The duos of
Liv Depies and
Maddison Wagner (5-4), and
Jules Johnson and
Elizabeth Himebauch (9-6) followed up with respective 8-1 victories to give the black and gold a quick 3-0 lead in the match.
Then, in singles action, Johnson (12-3), Himebauch (7-5) and
Regan Snyder (8-6) each improved their individual winning-streaks to two contests, posting identical 6-0, 6-1 scores.
At No. 2 and No. 4 singles, Gargasoulas (5-10) and
Bethany Posey (6-11) nabbed their second conference wins of the season in straight-set fashion, while Nicholls rounded out the Bulldogs' scoring at the sixth singles slot with a 6-1, 6-0 scoreline, her first tally in the win column since March 2.
The 'Dogs impressive performance keeps them in the hunt for the upcoming MIAA postseason tournament, which is scheduled to take place from May 5-7 at the campus sites of the higher seeds.
Adrian now faces over a week of rest before resuming its push for the playoffs on April 23 against Saint Mary's.
