ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Adrian College baseball team is in the finals two weeks of the regular season looking to grab a home game for the MIAA Tournament. The Bulldogs sit in third place entering the week behind Hope College and Kalamazoo College. Adrian is tasked with a three-game series game Alma this week with the single game on the road on Friday followed by the doubleheader at home of Saturday.
The Bulldogs have struggled this season, but have now won four games in a row to sit at 17-14 in conference and 9-6 in MIAA play. The Bulldogs are coming off a win over Albion College and a sweep over Olivet. The bats came alive at the end of last week as the Bulldogs put up a total of 48 runs over Olivet in the three games after posting 15 against Albion.
Don Goodes has led the offense with a .363 batting average starting in 30 games this season. Goodes has recorded 45 hits with 15 doubles, three triples, and three home runs to go with 30 RBIs.
AJ Miranda is next of the team with a .356 average with 42 hits this season with ten doubles, four triples, and seven homers with a team-high 36 RBIs. Coming off a hot week,
Dylan Johnson has been a productive bat in the Adrian lineup. Last week for the Bulldogs, Johnson had ten hits with six of them going for extra-bases to lead up to his .352 average.
On the mound for the Bulldogs,
Joe Toth has turned into a solid started this season. In both of his starts, he's gone at least six innings has allowed a total of one run. Toth has put together a season 2.38 ERA with an opponent batting average of .217 in 22.2 innings pitched.
Michael Swanson is next on the team with a 2.67 ERA and an opponent batting average of .146. Swanson holds a 3-1 record on the year with four starts and 30.1 innings pitched.
Maxwell Denny is another starter planned for the weekend as he holds an ERA of 4.63 in nine starts with 44.2 innings pitched to lead the team.
Coming out of the bullpen,
Luc St. Antoine has made nine appearances with 19.2 innings pitched and an ERA of 3.20. On the back end of the pen,
Jacob Hanoian continues his role as the closer with a 3.24 ERA and four saves in 16.2 innings.
Alma College enters the weekend with a 9-21 record and sit 6-6 in conference. After sweeping Trine University, the Scots were downed by Kalamazoo 16-5 to finish the game in seven innings. Alma was then tasked with a game at Comerica Park against Division I Eastern Michigan where Alma fell 5-1 on Wednesday.
The weekend slate begins on Friday when the Bulldogs travel to Alma for a 4:00 PM contest. Action will resume on Saturday at Nicolay Field where Adrian will host the final two games of the series starting 1:00 PM.
