ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Adrian College Men's ACHA Division 1 hockey team welcomed the University of Pittsburgh Panthers to the Arrington Ice Arena this weekend by defeating them twice, by scores of 5-0 and 8-2.
Friday's contest was the third game in a row where the MD1 Bulldogs were 5-0 victors. The team received two goals from
Matteo DiGiulio to open the game, followed by
Nash Hatcher,
Sheldon Nolan, and
Jordan Comilla to round out the offense. Goaltender,
Noah Decottignies, pitched his fourth shutout victory of the season, stopping all ten shots he faced.
Saturday's afternoon rematch saw the Bulldogs jump out to a 4-0 lead before Pitt could find the back of the net.
Gavin Watt was first to find twine for Adrian, scoring his first collegiate goal on the power play. Goals from
Dylan Gajewski,
Blake Wideman, and
Matthew DiCesare followed after that to close out the first period.
Sebastian Smith and
Caleb Minns would score for the Bulldogs in the second frame to make it 6-1 after two periods of play. Pitt would then score again to open the third period before Watt and Comilla made it an 8-2 finish. Decottignies earned the win again, stopping 19 of 21 shots faced.
The MD1 Bulldogs will be back in action as they host rival Liberty University in a two-game series at the Arrington Ice Arena on October 13-14. Friday's match up at 7:00 PM will feature a Military Appreciation Night, while Saturday's puck drop will go for 1:00 PM.
