DULUTH, Minn. – The Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) announced its All-League Awards for NCAA men's hockey on Wednesday afternoon. Three members of the Adrian College men's hockey team were named All-Conference while
Matus Spodniak was named the NCHA Player of the Year and head coach Adam Krug was named Coach of the Year.
Sam Ruffin landed his name on the All-Conference Team for the second consecutive year. The Bulldog captain finished the season with 33 points on 11 goals and 22 assists in 23 games played. Six goals and 15 assists came in conference play for Ruffin where he totaled 41 shots. Two of his goals were power play goals, one was shorthanded, and two were game winners.
Chase Spencer picked up one of the defensive selections on the All-Conference Team for the first time in his career. Overall this season, Spencer scored four goals and racked up 18 assists for 22 points. He holds a +/- of +20 entering the Harris Cup Finals. Three of Spencer's goals came in conference play along with 11 of his assists. On the season, the defenseman totaled 15 blocked shots with nine coming in conference.
Matus Spodniak was an easy selection for NCHA Player of the Year. The nation's leading scorer has played in 28 games this season totaling 28 goals with 27 assists for 55 points. He racked up 145 shots this season and leads the team with a +/- of +25. Out of all his goals, 11 have come on the power play ranking second in the country while also recording four game winning goals, two overtime goals, and four hat tricks. In conference play, he's scored 14 goals with 19 assists with 10 blocked shots to lead the team.
Lastly, head coach Adam Krug was selected as the NCHA Coach of the Year for the fifth time in his career and third consecutive season. Krug earned his 200
th career win in game one of the Harris Cup Quarterfinals against Concordia Wisconsin and has the highest career winning percentage of any active coach across the NCAA. He led the Bulldogs to a 13-4-1 NCHA season with the team sitting in the top-5 in the USCHO.com Coaches Poll and the Pairwise Rankings all year. His successful season has led Adrian to another Harris Cup Finals appearance.
