MD1 Hockey Releases 2023-2024 Schedule

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College ACHA Men's Division 1 hockey team has announced its schedule for the 2023-2024 season. The Bulldogs are coming off a season that saw them secure the GLCHL Regular Season and Playoff titles and make it to the national championship game in March 2023, finishing 37-3-2 and 16-0 in conference play for the season. At the 2023 ACHA Men's Division 1 National Tournament in Marlborough, Massachusetts, the No. 3 Bulldogs defeated No. 14 Calvin University, No. 6 University of Central Oklahoma, and No. 2 Ohio University before exiting the tournament with a loss to No. 1 Minot State in the final.

The 2023-2024 season begins at home with a two-game set against the University of Cincinnati on September 22-23. After that, the Bulldogs jump right into conference play as they tackle a home and home series with Purdue University Northwest on September 28 and 30, followed by home weekends with the University of Pittsburgh and Liberty University to begin October. Adrian then continues conference play with two games at Roosevelt University on October 20-21. The remainder of their conference play throughout the season will include single matchups against Oakland University (11/21), Western Michigan University (1/11/24), and Eastern Michigan University (1/13/24), as well as home and homes with the University of Toledo (11/2-3), Davenport University (11/16-17), Calvin University (1/25,27/24), and Grand Valley State University (2/8,9/24) for a total of fifteen GLCHL conference games during the regular season.

The GLCHL will once again expand this season, moving from nine to ten members. New to the conference this year is the University of Toledo. The GLCHL also implemented a new rule stating that teams only need to play their conference opponents a minimum of one time during the regular season, whereas in previous years, it was a minimum of two games. The Bulldogs will continue to face off against several GLCHL teams on multiple occasions, but will only be facing Oakland, Eastern, and Western once.

An important non-conference series this season is a weekend rematch at the Arrington Ice Arena with Niagara University, who came into Adrian last season for a game and defeated the Bulldogs, 3-2. The Bulldogs will look to bounce back and take two from the Purple Eagles on November 9-10. Other key matchups for the MD1 Bulldogs include Ohio University, Indiana Tech, the University of Michigan-Dearborn, and a trip to Lynchburg, Virginia for a second matchup with Liberty University.

MD1 Head Coach, Gary Astalos, had this to say about the team's upcoming slate: "We are really happy with how our game schedule came together. We have been able to continue to add some very tough non-conference games to help prepare us for the national tournament. In addition, our conference games will be very competitive, as we have created some great rivalries here in the GLCHL. We are looking forward to having our group back on campus in August." He also added that the team will bring back a Thanksgiving Tuesday Night game this season, facing off against Oakland University on November 21 at the Arrington Ice Arena.

In addition, the team will be hosting a Military Appreciation Night on October 13, as well as an AYHA Night on October 26, and AOTHA Nights on November 9 and January 25. On January 20, the team will honor their Senior Class of 2024 with a Senior Day ceremony before their 12:00 PM game against Trine University at the Arrington Ice Arena.

At the conclusion of the regular season, the GLCHL Playoffs will take place in Ann Arbor, Michigan on February 15-17, 2024, hosted by Eastern Michigan University. With just under a month off until the National Tournament, the Bulldogs will then travel to Fort Wayne, Indiana to face off against Indiana Tech for a nationals' tune-up game on February 23 before traveling to St. Louis, Missouri for the ACHA Men's Division 1 National Tournament from March 7-12, 2024, at the Centene Community Ice Center.
