OXFORD, Ohio. -- The Adrian College Men's ACHA Division 2 hockey team were victors in a thrilling road overtime contest last night with the Miami-Ohio University Redhawks, climbing back from a three-goal deficit to win 4-3 in sudden death.
The Bulldogs were in for a good one, squaring up toe-to-toe with last year's national runners-up in a one game pre-thanksgiving clash. Having never faced the Miami-Ohio Redhawks before, Adrian was in for a true test against one of the nation's top teams.
To open Friday night's contest in Ohio, the Redhawks tallied first and second, taking a 2-0 lead into the first intermission. After Adrian struggled to score in the first, they still couldn't solve the Redhawk tender in period two, as Miami-Ohio added one more in the middle frame to go up 3-0 after two periods of play.
With the Bulldogs down three with one period to go, a switch was flipped as Adrian exploded in the final frame to tie the game and force overtime.
Brayden Morris opened the scoring for Adrian, followed by
Greg Obrycki who brought it within one about halfway through the stanza. To make for an exciting finish, Morris added his second of the game with 55 seconds remaining, bringing the score to 3-3 after regulation. In the dying seconds of overtime, Morris played hero, sniping his third of the game to complete the hat-trick and secure the impressive Bulldog road victory. In between the pipes was
Alexander Herman, who also played hero, stopping 53 of 56 shots faced, holding down the fort for his third win of the season.
The MD2 Bulldogs improve to 11-2-1 and will next face-off against the Sault College Cougars at the Arrington Ice Arena for a two-game set to wrap the first semester on December 14-15.
