HAMMOND, Ind. -- The Adrian College MD2 hockey team hosted Purdue Northwest Friday afternoon falling 5-2 and traveled to Purdue Northwest Saturday afternoon falling 6-4, dropping the series.
Adrian battled early but couldn't keep pace as Purdue Northwest pulled away for a 5–2 win on Friday night. The Bulldogs came out strong in the opening period, answering early pressure with a goal from
Griffin Clark at the 11:58 mark. Clark's tally, assisted by
Logan Jent and
Greg Obrycki, tied the game and gave Adrian momentum midway through the frame. After trading goals throughout the first period, the game remained competitive, with the Bulldogs locked in a 2–2 tie to close out the first period. The Pride began to create separation in the second period, capitalizing on special teams and sustained offensive-zone pressure. A power-play goal early in the period gave the Pride a two-goal cushion, and they added another later in the frame to push the lead to 5–2. Despite generating chances, Adrian struggled to find the net the rest of the way. The Bulldogs finished with 25 shots on goal, compared to Purdue Northwest's 48. In net,
Lorenzo Culasso made 28 saves in relief, while
Alexander Herman was perfect in his time between the pipes, stopping all 15 shots he faced.
Adrian jumped out to an early lead, scoring four times in the opening period, but Purdue University Northwest responded with a strong final 40 minutes to earn a 6–4 win on Saturday night. The Bulldogs controlled the first frame with goals from Braeden McNamara twice, Everett Bosak, and John Carper, taking advantage of early momentum and a power-play opportunity to build a 4–1 cushion after one. Purdue Northwest settled in during the second period, cutting into the deficit with three goals, including a pair on the power play, to swing momentum and even the contest heading into the third. The Pride continued their push in the final period, scoring twice more to complete the comeback. Purdue Northwest finished with a slight edge in shots on goal, 44–42. Adrian goaltender Herman made 38 saves in the game.
The MD2 Bulldogs will back in action Saturday on the road at Schoolcraft for a 5:00 PM puck drop and Sunday at home for a 1:00 PM puck drop.Â
