ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Adrian College Men's ACHA Division 3 hockey team battled with the University of Michigan Wolverines over the weekend in the team's first MCHC conference series of the season. The Bulldogs were ultimately swept by the Wolverines, losing two close match-ups, 4-0 and 4-3.
The Bulldogs hit the road to Canton on Friday for game one of the series, looking to defeat the National Champions from two seasons ago. After a hard-fought battle, Adrian came up short as Michigan potted four goals to Adrian's zero for the shutout victory. Freshman goalie,
Aidan Knox, stood tall as he stopped 56 shots in the game for the Bulldogs.
On Sunday afternoon, the Bulldogs and Wolverines clashed at the Arrington Ice Arena to close the series, with the Bulldogs holding it much closer this time around. Just twelve seconds into the game, Adrian's
Henry Darnell opened the scoring on a great play with
James Schmidt. Michigan answered back with three goals of their own, going up 3-1 after one period. Michigan added another tally in the second period, before Adrian fought right back in the final frame, bringing the score to 4-3 after a short-handed goal from Schmidt and an even strength goal from
Anthony Alfonsi. Though it was not enough as Michigan held on for the 4-3 win and sweep of Adrian. Goaltender,
Brandon Hiuser, started for Adrian but was pulled after allowing three goals on eight shots in the first period.
Rex Goldberg entered in relief for the Bulldogs, stopping 33 shots throughout the remainder of the contest.
The MD3 Bulldogs will look forward to a weekend off before they host Butler University on November 16-17 at the Arrington Ice Arena.
