Baseball Takes Game Against Hope; Ejections Results in Double Forfeits for Games Two and Three of the Series

Box Score 1 HOLLAND, Mich. – The Adrian College baseball team opened its series with Hope College on Friday afternoon with a doubleheader on the road. Entering the weekend, the Bulldogs sat one game behind Hope in the MIAA standings. The Bulldogs took game one on Friday by a score of 11-3 followed by game two resulting in a double forfeit due to NCAA regulations after ejections by both teams.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME 1
-        Adrian took a 3-0 lead in the top of the second. Easton Rogers and Jack Boike each drove in a run on RBI groundouts followed by an RBI single from Rolando Jimenez.
-        Ryan Davis gave the Bulldogs a 4-0 lead after a solo home run in the top of the fourth.
-        Hope responded in the bottom of the fourth by putting up three runs bringing the score to 4-3.
-        Jakob Charles responded for Adrian in the sixth on an RBI single to lead 5-3.
-        In the seventh inning, Rogers drove in a run on an RBI groundout followed by another RBI single from Jimenez.
-        AJ Miranda doubled in a run in the eighth inning to lead 8-3.
-        The Bulldogs kept their foot on the gas and added three more in the ninth to win 11-3. Nic Bruder drove in a run on a sacrifice while David Kedrow and Davis each singled in a run.
-        Charles went the distance on the mound where he threw nine innings allowing three runs on seven hits with five strikeouts.

-        Hope responded in the third inning on a passed ball before taking a 3-1 lead in the fourth.
-        Hope drove in two more runs in the fifth to lead 5-1.
-        In the sixth inning, Bruder drove in a pair of runs on a 2-RBI double followed by a double from Jimenez to make it 5-4.
-        Hope responded with a run in the sixth to extend their lead to 6-4.
-        With two outs in the bottom of the sixth, the Bulldogs threw a runner out at the plate who collided with the catcher resulting in an ejection to the runner and the benches to clear. After both teams returned to their dugouts, the umpires ruled that there were not enough players on either team to finish the game as players were ejected for leaving the dugout. Game two resulted in a forfeit for both sides, and no stats will be counted.

NOTE FROM THE COMMISSIONER
MIAA Community—
We want to address the unfortunate incident that occurred during today's doubleheader between Adrian College and Hope College. During the second game, a collision between players resulted in both teams' benches clearing onto the field. The act of leaving the dugout automatically results in ejection and a one-game suspension, according to NCAA rules.

As a result, and in accordance with NCAA rules, both teams will forfeit their next scheduled contest. Therefore, tomorrow's game between Adrian College and Hope College is canceled and will be recorded as a forfeit for both teams. Additionally, Friday's contest has been declared a double-forfeit since the game could not continue.

We understand the disappointment this may cause for the players, coaches, and fans. However, the MIAA is committed to upholding the rules and regulations that govern our conference and ensuring the safety and well-being of our student-athletes.

Incidents like these serve as a reminder of the importance of sportsmanship and respect for our opponents. We encourage all our member schools to use this as an opportunity to reflect on these values and to foster a positive and competitive environment both on and off the field.

Commissioner Brown
