ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College baseball team is headed to Randolph Macon College for the NCAA Super Regionals this weekend. The Super Regional will consist of a best-of-three series with the winner advancing to the NCAA Division III College World Series. Adrian landed a spot in the Super Regional after a 3-0 finish in the Baldwin Wallace Regional while Randolph Macon finished with a 3-0 record in the Penn State Harrisburg Regional.
The Bulldogs enter the series with a 32-14 record and are currently on a six-game winning streak. With the exception of the two double-forfeits against Hope College, Adrian has won 16 of its last 18 games. As a team, the Bulldogs are hitting .313 on the season while the Bulldog pitching staff has held opponents to a .249 batting average on the year.
Nic Bruder leads the Bulldogs with .403 batting average on the season with 75 hits and 186 at-bats. Bruder needs three more at-bats to break the single season record for Adrian and needs nine more hits to break the single season hits record. Bruder advanced Adrian to the Super Regional after hitting a bases clearing double with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to defeat Catholic in the Regional Championship.
AJ Miranda holds a .354 average on the season and leads the team in doubles (17), home runs (6), and RBIs (45). Four more Bulldogs hold batting averages over .300 on the season including
David Kedrow (.346),
Joe Casale (.336),
Edward Wagner (.318), and
Ryan Davis (.309).
Adrian has locked down its starting pitching core for the NCAA Tournament with
Jakob Charles,
Jaxon Clark, and
Daniel Gutierrez. Charles holds an ERA of 3.58 entering the Super Regional in 78 innings pitched and a record of 9-1 with 44 strikeouts. Clark sits with a 7-3 record, a 3.46 ERA and 53 strikeouts in 67.2 innings while Gutierrez holds a 4-2 record with a 4.86 ERA and a team-high 60 strikeouts in 66.2 innings pitched.
Out of the Bullpen, Adrian looks to
Lincoln Lipinski,
Luc St. Antoine, and
Landon Kozlowski. Kozlowski has pitched in 26.1 innings while holding a 1.37 ERA. Lipinski enters the Super Regional with a 4.18 ERA in 32.1 innings pitched while St. Antoine has earned the role as the closer with a 1.98 ERA in 27.1 innings pitched with six saves.
Looking at Randolph Macon, the Yellow Jackets sit 31-13 on the season and are on a three-game winning streak after falling to Shenandoah and Lynchburg in the ODAC Tournament. Randolph Macon earned one of the at-large bids to the NCAA Tournament where they defeated Elizabethtown twice and Penn State Harrisburg to win the Regional.
Randolph Macon is batting .307 as a team led by a .383 average from infielder, Zach Wernoski, a .360 batting average from outfielder, Myles Webb, and a .342 average from catcher and first baseman, Carter Schmitt. Chaz Harvey brings the power for Randolph Macon with 45 RBIs with the help of ten doubles and 12 home runs.
The pitching staff for Randolph Macon looks to right-hander, Drew Ramos, as their ace as he has made 15 starts on the season tossing 60.2 innings and holding a 4.75 ERA with 64 strikeouts. Colin Casey has made ten starts for the Yellow Jackets where he holds a 4.93 ERA in 38.1 innings pitched while Carter Schuma has stated eight games holding a 3.62 ERA in 37.1 innings pitched.
The winner of the Super Regional advances to Eastlake, Ohio for the Division III College World Series starting on May 31 and will consist of the final eight teams. This weekend's Super Regional will begin on Friday, May 24 with a 12:00 PM game followed by game two on Saturday, May 25 at 11:00 AM with game three to follow if necessary.
