SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. -- The Adrian College MD2 hockey team headed north for a two-game series against Sault College and Lake Superior State University. Splitting with Sault with a 4-1 win Friday night and falling 3-5 Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs then headed back over the boarder beating Lake Superior State 3-1 to conclude the weekend.
Adrian came out firing in the first period on Friday, capitalizing twice on the power play within 18 seconds. Jackson Hildebrand opened the scoring at 8:37, burying his first of the season off a setup from Logan Jent. Moments later, John Carper doubled the lead with another power-play tally assisted by Jack Kraemer, giving the Bulldogs a 2–0 edge. After a scoreless second period, Adrian regained control early in the third. Tyler Hissong extended the lead to 3–0 at 1:37, with Bazl Cook and Brady Desmadryl earning the assists. Kraemer then added a power-play goal at 8:17—his second point of the night—to make it 4–0. The Cougars managed to spoil the shutout with less than a minute remaining as they found the back of the net on the power play, but it was too little, too late. Culasso stood tall between the pipes for Adrian, turning aside 28 of 29 shots to earn the win.
Saturday afternoon, Adrian jumped out to a fast start, with Michael Tucker scoring just over two minutes into the first period, assisted by Dylan Braun. After Sault tied it midway through the period, the Bulldogs regained the lead at 18:30 when Brady Desmadryl capitalized on a feed from Cook and Hissong. Adrian led 2–1 after one. The second period saw no scoring but the Cougars carried that energy into the final frame and took control of the game. Adrian's Dylan Braun gave the Bulldogs a 3–1 lead early in the third, assisted by Aaron Guibord, but Sault responded with four unanswered goals to seal the comeback. In goal, Alexander Herman made 28 saves on 32 shots for Adrian.
To close out the weekend Sunday afternoon, all the scoring came in an action-packed first period. Jack Kraemer opened the scoring just 2:46 into the game, assisted by Matthew Krueger. Cook doubled the Bulldogs' lead minutes later off a feed from Hissong. The Lakers cut into the deficit at 8:19, but Adrian responded quickly when Braeden McNamara netted his first goal of the season, with help from Hildebrand, to make it 3–1. From there, goaltender Dylan Callahan shut the door, turning aside 37 of 38 shots to earn the victory.
The Adrian College MD2 team will be back in action Friday and Saturday for a home-and-home series against Michigan State University. On the road Friday for a 5:30 PM puck drop and home Saturday for a 7:00 PM puck drop.
