ADRIAN, Mich. - The Adrian College men's wrestling team opened MIAA dual competition by welcoming Alma College, delivering a strong performance to earn a 31–20 victory over the Scots.
The Bulldogs got off to a fast start at 125 pounds as Adrian Rosas set the tone with an impressive technical fall. Momentum continued at 133 when Oscar Gutierrez secured a pin, extending Adrian's early lead.
At 141 pounds, Cole Riedel represented the Bulldogs, but Alma responded with a win to trim the advantage. Adrian answered right back at 149, as Landyn Crance dominated his match and earned a technical fall. The Bulldogs stayed hot at 157 with Aiden Smith picking up a pin to further build the lead.
In the 165-pound bout, Rickey Lynch battled his way to a hard-fought decision victory. Alma found success at 174, where Calob Hielman was pinned, giving the Scots some momentum. That momentum was short-lived, however, as Spencer Vos took control at 184 with a technical fall to swing things back in Adrian's favor.
Alma claimed the 197-pound match, and at heavyweight (285), Scott Smith fought hard but came up short in the final bout of the night.
Despite Alma's late pushes, the Bulldogs' early dominance proved decisive, as Adrian secured a 31–20 win in its first MIAA dual of the season.
Up Next: The Bulldogs are back in action on Sunday, January 18 where they will travel to Alma College for the Bruce Dickey Open. Matches begin at 9:00 AM.
