ALLIANCE, Ohio – The University of Mount Union M Club Hall of Fame announced its 2026 class and special award winners last Friday. Among this year's inductees is Adrian College men's wrestling coach and Mount Union alum Bill Schindel.
To be inducted into the M Club Hall of Fame, a student-athlete must have earned a degree from Mount Union and received two letters in one sport or one letter in two or more sports. Athletes are eligible for selection 15 years after graduation or 15 years after their last competition. Consideration will be based solely on Mount Union varsity participation preceding graduation. Coaches and administrators had to have served at least five years prior to consideration or have been gone at least five years since they left the institution.
Schindel's illustrious career on the mat spanned from 2008 to 2011. During that time, he became one of only four Mount Union wrestlers to earn All-American honors three times (2009, 2010, 2011), including a third-place finish in 2011. He was a three-time Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Individual Champion and played a pivotal role in Mount Union's 2011 OAC Championship. He currently ranks 18th all-time in career wins at 197 with a record of 83-17.
Success came for Schindel off the mat as well, earning National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Scholar-All-American honors and All-OAC Academic honors twice (2010, 2011). Schindel earned the Clyde Lamb Award, which is presented annually to the top male and female student-athlete from each OAC institution.
After the conclusion of his distinguished career on the mat, Schindel transitioned into an assistant coach role with the Purple Raiders. He helped assist Mount Union to their second straight OAC Championship and a 15th-place finish at the NCAA Division III National Championships. At the conclusion of the 2012 season, Schindel was promoted to the role of head coach, making him the eighth coach to hold the title in school history.
In his five years as head coach, Schindel led the Purple Raiders to 46 wins. He led the team to three OAC titles and earned the OAC Coach of the Year Award in 2015. Three of his teams finished runner-up at regionals (2013, 2014, 2015), while three finished top-8 at the NWCA National Duals (2012, 2014, 2015). He coached six All-Americans, 14 national qualifiers, nine NWCA Scholar-All-Americans, and 16 All-OAC First Team selections during his tenure with the Purple Raiders.
