ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College men's wrestling team hosted Trine University inside the Merillat Sport and Fitness Center on Saturday afternoon, honoring the 2025–26 senior class prior to the dual. The Bulldogs battled wire to wire, but ultimately fell in heartbreaking fashion by a tie-breaker, 21–20.
Action began at 125 pounds where Maxwell Mader got the start for Adrian but was forced to withdraw due to injury. Trine picked up another victory at 133, followed by a win at 141 to build an early lead in the dual.
Adrian responded with a strong stretch in the middle weights. Landyn Crance sparked the Bulldogs with a dominant technical fall, swinging momentum back in Adrian's favor. Aiden Smith kept it rolling at 157, securing a pin to further close the gap. At 165, Rickey Lynch added another crucial result with a hard-fought decision victory.
Trine regained the edge with a win at 174, but Spencer Vos answered at 184, earning a decision to keep Adrian within striking distance. Trine claimed the 195 bouts, setting up a dramatic finish in the heavyweight division.
With the dual on the line, Scott Smith stepped up at 285 and delivered, winning by decision to tie the score at 20–20. Despite the late surge, Trine was able to claim the overall dual via tie-breaker, handing Adrian a narrow 21–20 defeat.
Up Next: The Bulldogs are back in action on Thursday, January 29 where they will travel to Albion College for a MIAA dual. The dual is set to begin at 7:00 PM.
