Stamps Named MVP as Bulldogs Beat PSU Behrend, 72-69

ERIE, Pa. - The women's basketball team has won three in a row after a 72-69 win at PSU Behrend on Sunday afternoon in the championship game of the PSU Behrend Tournament. Junior guard Anita Stamps was named MVP of the tournament after a 11-point, six-assist and five-steal performance on Sunday. She is averaging 12.8 points, 4.3 assists and four steals per game so far this season. She was 4-for-4 at the foul line and also made three field goals including a three-pointer in 25 minutes.

Sophomore forward Megan Bouwens was also named to the all-tournament team as she led the team in scoring with 13 points on 6-of-13 shooting with nine rebounds in 22 minutes. The team got a big lift off the bench scoring 33 points. Freshman forward Jenn Headley went 3-for-3 from the floor and 2-for-2 at the foul line with five rebounds in 19 minutes. Freshman guard Katie Ross added eight points and two three-pointers in 20 minutes. Adrian shot 42.6 percent overall and were 4-for-12 from behind the arc. Adrian was strong on the boards with a +13 advantage for the game including 22 offensive boards. AC ended the game with 15 second chance points and 20 points in the paint.

The game was close throughout as there were 13 lead changes and 10 ties during the contest. The game hinged upon free throw shooting which saw Adrian make the freebies when they needed them despite going 10-of-20 from the foul line during the contest. PSU Behrend led 69-68 with 1:15 left after a jumper by Christine Krankota. Adrian's next possession saw Ashley McClarren get fouled and make a pair at the stripe with 53 seconds to go. Headley grabbed a rebound off a three-point miss by Natalie Engel and Stamps was fouled immediately. Stamps also made both free throws to grow their lead to three with 26 seconds left. Rachel Richardson hoisted a three-pointer with five seconds to play and the ball went out of bounds off the Bulldogs. Amy Oldach shot a three-pointer with three seconds to go that just rimmed out and the horn sounded as Adrian grabbed the rebound.
