The Adrian College men's lacrosse team scored eight first-quarter goals and never looked back en route to winning the first game in program history on Wednesday against Christopher Newport University.
Jeff Ivey, Josh Maluta, and Ryan Knautz all scored goals within the first 2:30 of the contest to give the Bulldogs the early 3-0 lead. After two Captains' goals, the Bulldogs struck again quickly in succession, netting three more goals within a 2:05 span for the 6-2 advantage. The Captains got their third goal of the game with 5:27 left in the first quarter, but once again the Bulldogs responded, this time with two goals to close out the first frame of action.
After setting the tone of the game by taking the 8-3 lead in the first period, the Bulldogs controlled much of the remainder of the game, outscoring the Capitals 9-2 over the final three quarters of play to take the 17-5 win.
Ryan Knautz was the game's leading scorer, netting six goals and dishing out four assists in the win. Jeff Ivey added four goals to the Bulldog cause on Tuesday. Eric Lindstrom picked up the win in goal for the Bulldogs, making four saves through 45 minutes of play before giving way to Nick DeGroot. DeGroot registered six saves on the day.
The Bulldogs (1-0) will next be in action on Saturday, March 1 when they take on Marymount University in Arlington, Va.
