The men's lacrosse squad needed a pick-me-up having lost six straight games and got just that on Saturday night with a 16-5 win over Tri-State University. The Bulldogs opened up a 6-1 lead after the first period and never looked back against the winless Thunder (0-9). The battle of the first-year programs was all Adrian who scored three goals in the first 2:15 to take a quick 3-0 lead. Dan Giorgis got Tri-State on the board with 9:32 left in the opening period but then Adrian added three more goals to lead by five after 15 minutes. Jeff Ivey scored three of his five goals in the first and Josh Maluta scored two of his four goals to pace the offense.
Adrian led 9-2 at halftime as Ivey, Maluta and Sam Alden all scored for the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs pushed their lead to 14-2 with 3:23 left in the third period and then played keep away for the rest of the game as both teams scored twice in the fourth period.
Ivey had a season-high seven points with five goals and two assists. Maluta also had a season-high with nine points collecting four goals and five assists. Ryan Knautz totaled four points with three goals and an assist. He leads the team with 22 goals this season. Sam Alden led the reserves with four points tallying two goals and two assists.
Adrian fired 25 shots on goal while Tri-State tested goalie Eric Lindstrom with 20 shots on goal. Lindstrom made 13 saves including eight in the second half. The game became very physical against the rivals with a total of 23 penalties for 19 minutes. Adrian was 3-of-10 in extra-man opportunities while the Thunder were 3-of-14.
