FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. -
The Bulldog women's basketball team dropped their first game of the 10th annual Cruzin' Classic to #8 Marymount, 66-58, as the Saints used a strong inside game and got the services of preseason All-American Kathleen Brown back after missing the first seven games of the season. Brown scored 19 points and grabbed six rebounds in the contest and the Saints had 32 of their points in the paint.
Adrian led 7-3 early on after a fast-break layup by Jennifer Perrin and it seemed like the Bulldogs would be able to give Marymount a fight throughout. Marymount had a game-changing run with the game tied at 15-15 as they went on a 10-0 spurt to grab a 25-15 lead with 8:27 left in the first half.
Adrian would cut the lead back down to two at 27-25 at the 4:47 mark on an Anita Stamps layup but Marymount closed out the half with another push to lead 38-27 at the half.
Marymount pushed their lead to 18 points at the 14:59 mark on a Brown free throw and led by double figures until 3:05 left in the game as Adrian clawed back into the contest. Stamps had a steal and layup and Adrian began to put a little pressure on the Saints. The shots in the end did not fall and AC fell to 3-3 overall.
Stamps led the team with 17 points and eight rebounds in 33 minutes. Perrin added 12 points and four rebounds in 32 minutes. Elysia Norris also was in double figures with 10 points and also had four rebounds and four assists. Adrian shot 36.5 percent from the floor and were 6-of-8 at the foul line. Marymount was 24-of-58 from the floor (41.4%) and 14-of-22 (63.6%) at the stripe.
