ONU Forces Overtime With Last Second Three and Beats Bulldogs 80-75

ADA, Ohio - Morgan Dumbaugh played the role of hero on Wednesday night for Ohio Northern as she made a three-pointer with two seconds left in regulation to force overtime and the Polar Bears held Adrian without a field goal in the extra session in a 80-75 decision.

Adrian led 67-66 with 43 seconds to play in regulation after a Elysia Norris layup. It was their first lead in nearly four minutes and set up a crazy final moments. Dumbaugh missed a layup with 32 seconds left and Norris grabbed the rebound. Anita Stamps put Adrian up 69-66 with 25 seconds left on a layup. Dumbaugh missed a three-pointer with 13 seconds to go and Jeanne Bockey got the offensive rebound and ONU called a timeout. Dumbaugh got another chance and she made the most of it with a triple to tie the game.

The Bulldogs never led in overtime and scored all six of their points at the free throw line. Dumbaugh scored first in overtime on a jumper and then hit a pair of free throws to put ONU ahead 73-69 with 4:09 left in the extra period. Jennifer Perrin cut the lead to two with two free throws with 3:43 to play. Ashley McClarren fouled out with 2:21 to go and Joanna Snyder made a pair of freebies to put the Polar Bears ahead 76-71. Norris and Stamps both made a pair of charity tosses on back-to-back possessions to get Adrian within 76-75 with 1:39 remaining. It would be the last points of the game for the Bulldogs as they missed five field goals and turned it over twice in the final 1:39.

Adrian (3-5) dropped their fourth straight and will host Earlham tomorrow at home at 2:00 p.m. The Bulldogs shot 43.3 percent for the contest and were 7-of-20 (35%) from the arc. Jenn Headley had her first double-double of her career with 11 points and 10 rebounds. McClarren added 13 points and six rebounds. Stamps had 15 points and seven assists in 34 minutes. Perrin added a team-high 16 points and went 8-of-9 at the line in 41 minutes.
