Final Stats
ADRIAN, Mich. -
The Adrian College women's basketball team nearly knocked off the number one team in the MIAA on Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs played extremely hard on senior day, but they were defeated by the final score of 58-56.
The AC senior class put up good numbers against the Flying Dutch. Jennifer Perrin scored 13 points and also added five assists. Anita Stamps once again filled up the stat sheet with 10 points, eight rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Elysia Norris and Ashley McClarren also impacted the game before fouling out. Norris scored 12 points, while McClarren grabbed eight rebounds to go with her five points.
Kayla Galecka, Kayla Fowler, and Katie Ross rounded out the scoring for the Bulldogs. Galecka had seven points, seven rebounds, and six assists in 27 minutes of action. Fowler went 3-for-4 from the floor to earn her six points, and Ross hit a three point bucket to finish the game with 3 points.
The biggest factor of the game came in the paint for the Flying Dutch. Carrie Snikkers scored a game-high 23 points and also grabbed 12 rebounds for Hope. Philana Greene also scored in double figures with 10 points off of 5-of-8 shooting.
Adrian trailed by as many as eight points in the first half, but they battled back to tie the game at halftime 21-21. AC shot 40 percent from the floor compared to just 25 percent from Hope. Both teams shot the ball well in the second half. Adrian shot 50 percent (13-26) from the floor, and 66 percent (4-6) from three point range. Hope also improved by shooting 43 percent (13-30) from the floor and 42 percent from downtown (3-7).
The second half belonged to Hope early as the Dutch led by 13 points with 8:07 remaining. The Bulldogs never quit, as they came all the way back to tie the game at 54-54 with 53 seconds to play. Snikkers got in the paint during Hope's next possession and made a layup while being fouled. She hit the free throw to complete the old fashion three point play and therefore gave Hope a 57-54 lead.
Ten seconds later Norris got the Bulldogs within one by making a layup off a great assist from Galecka. With time running low the Bulldogs were forced to foul in attempt to extend the game. Liz Ellis went to the free throw line for Hope and hit one of her two free throw attempts giving the Dutch a 58-56 lead.
Jenn Headley grabbed the rebound on the missed free throw and Adrian once again got the ball to Norris. Norris forced her way through the lane in attempt to get another layup, but Snikkers made a good defensive play and blocked the shot with eight seconds to play. Norris fouled Snikkers immediately after the play, putting Snikkers on the free throw line.
Hope was in the double bonus so Snikkers got two free throws with a two point lead and six seconds remaining. Snikkers missed both attempts and the Bulldogs pushed the ball down the floor, but they were unable to get a shot off giving Hope the 58-56 victory.
