Final Stats
SPRINGFIELD, Ohio -
The Adrian College men's lacrosse team fell to 4-2 overall with a 14-13 loss to Wittenberg on Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs held a 9-5 lead at halftime, but the Tigers bounced back to steal the one goal victory.
DJ Clevely earned two assists on the first two goals of the game for Adrian. Tyler Tanguay scored the first goal of the game, and Ryan Knautz increased the lead a minute later giving AC the 2-0 lead. The Tigers got on the board at the 8:29 mark, but Tanguay answered for Adrian with an unassisted goal giving AC the 3-1 lead. Wittenberg scored the final goal of the quarter to make the score 3-2 after the first.
Adrian played well in the second quarter. Clevely scored first for Adrian off an assist from Tanguay. The Tigers followed by scoring two goals after that to tie the game at 4-4. Adrian went on a run to make the game 7-4. David Monroe, Tanguay, and Scott Krystiniak scored to regain the lead for the Bulldogs. Josh Maluta was credited with an assist on two of the three goals. Matt Snider broke up the run for the Tigers, but Adrian scored the final two goals of the first half taking a 9-5 lead into halftime.
Adrian was outscored 4-2 in the third quarter. The Tigers scored the first two goals of the quarter, and the final two. Tanguay and Knautz scored the goals for Adrian. Clevely was credited with two assists.
Clevely took advantage of a Wittenberg penalty to score a man up goal to start the fourth quarter. The Tigers chipped away at the lead and eventually tied the game at 12-12 with five minutes remaining. Jeff Capella gave Wittenberg their first lead of the game with 4:19 remaining, and Mike Derrenberger pushed the lead to 14-12 with just over a minute to play. The Bulldogs scored with 13 seconds on the game clock, but it was not enough as they were defeated by the final score of 14-13.
Although Pat Gaeger got the loss in the game he still played very well. Gaeger played the entire game and made 16 saves.
