Box Score HOLLAND, Mich. – It was a tough end to the season for the Adrian College women's basketball team as they fell 103-42 to the second ranked Hope College in the opening-round of the MIAA tournament. The Bulldogs finish their season with an overall record of 7-18.
Adrian kept the top offense in the conference within arm's reach throughout the first 10 minutes of the game, down by only six at 23-17. Adrian fouls and missed shots turned into Flying Dutch points as they scored 13 unanswered while hitting 11 free throws in a row. Hope ended the half out-scoring Adrian 33-6 as the Flying Dutch led 55-23 at halftime.
Sophomore Kayla Galecka (Ovid, Mich./Ovid-Elsie) scored the first basket of the second half, but Hope continued their scoring run in the as they out-scored Adrian 17-5 over the first six minutes of the half. In a high-scoring game, both teams kicked in the defense midway through the half as neither team was able to score for a span of 2:19. The Bulldogs scored back-to-back baskets on several occasions but the Flying Dutch offense re-found their scoring touch as they finished off the game with a 14-5 run.
Leading the Bulldogs in scoring was Galecka with eight points while grabbing four rebounds. Junior Katie Ross (Clawson, Mich./Clawson) scored seven points while swatting away two shots. Fellow junior Kayla Fowler (Logansport, Ind./Logansport) also added in six points while grabbing a team-high three steals. Freshman Senneca Scott (Livonia, Mich./Franklin) had a solid game scoring six points while pulling down a game-high eight rebounds. Sophomore Nicole Boggs (Gibraltar, Mich./St. Mary's Catholic Central) led the Bulldogs with a game-high three assists.
Adrian hit 15-of-63 (23.8) from the field while the Flying Dutch shot 34-of-66 (51.5). Hope also made 53.3% (8-15) from behind the arc while the Bulldogs managed 37.5% (3-8).
The 103 points by Hope set an Adrian record for most given up. The previous mark was 102 also by Hope during a game on February 14, 2009 in a 102-53 loss.
Head Coach Kathy Morris finishes the season with 209 career wins and now remains only 14 behind career-leader Nancy Walsh.
