DEMOREST, Ga. - The baseball team played its second game of the day on Sunday (Feb. 27) and fell 6-5 to Piedmont College on their home field after starting the year with a pair of neutral site games against Millsaps College. The Lions (8-4) rallied from a 5-3 deficit after four and a half innings with single runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings and kept Adrian off the board during their last four innings.
The Bulldogs got out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first as Nate Sarkissian had an RBI single scoring Andrew DeLuca who singled and stole second to put himself into scoring position. Jason Greer gave AC a two-run lead with a sacrifice fly which scored Brian Bilius who walked to reach base.
Piedmont responded with two runs in the bottom half of the first against Adrian starter Jason Fryman. John Duke had an RBI single and James Moyer got an RBI on a groundout which went 1-4-3 on the play.
The Lions took a 3-2 lead in the second as Curtis Cornett had an RBI single with two outs. AC scored twice in the third to take a 4-3 lead. Greer had a two-run single with the bases loaded scoring DeLuca and Bilius.
Adrian took a 5-3 lead with a run in the fifth as Garrett Green drew a bases loaded walk to record an RBI. Cody Meyer then lined out to shortstop to end any further damage. The Bulldogs left two on base in the sixth and then stranded the bases loaded in the seventh as Bilius fanned to end the threat. Adrian left single runners on base in the eighth and ninth innings.
Fryman went 5.2 innings and allowed nine hits and five earned runs. He struggled with his command with four walks and struck out one. Freshman Rylie Robinson threw the final 2.1 innings and took the loss (0-1) despite a good outing. He allowed just one hit and one earned run with two walks and two strikeouts.
DeLuca went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and also drew a walk. Bilius went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. Joe Dubina also had two hits in four at-bats as the Bulldogs recorded 12 hits.
