Box Score ALBION, Mich. – It was a one-sided affair in the Adrian College men's lacrosse game as they defeated Midwest Lacrosse Conference opponent Albion College 21-4. The Bulldogs improved their record to 5-2 on the season and remained perfect in the MLC at 3-0.
Adrian started hot, scoring the first three goals of the game, including freshman Drake Dailey-Chwalibog (White Lake, Mich./St. Mary's) scoring just 1:15 into the game. Junior Tyler Tanguay (Port Colborne, Ont./Lakeshore Catholic) scored on the Bulldogs first man-up opportunity at 9:22 of the first quarter. After the Britons scored their first goal at 2:44, the Bulldogs came back strong scoring two goals just 10 seconds apart by juniors T.J. Cook (Caledon, Ont./Upper Canada College) and David Monroe (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron). Fellow junior Mitch Barnard (Springwater Township, Ont./Eastview Secondary School) rounded out the Adrian scoring in the first quarter as he netted his goal with just 15 seconds left in the quarter.
The Second period was again all Adrian as they netted the first six goals of the quarter as Albion could only muster a single goal on a man-up opportunity with just 1:17 left in the quarter. Barnard recorded a hat trick in the first two quarters as he scored twice in the second. Adrian went into the locker room leading 12-2 at the half.
After senior Josh Maluta led off the third quarter with his second goal of the game, Albion answered back with their second man-up goal of the game. Adrian would answer with four goals in a span of 1:24, including two by senior Jeff Ivey (Orangeville, Ont./Orangeville Secondary) just 19 seconds apart.
The Bulldogs came out of the gate quickly again in the final quarter as they scored four unanswered goals in the period before the Britons netted the last goal of the game with 3:09 remaining.
Monroe led the Bulldogs scoring four goals for the second time this season while adding in an assist. Monroe also tied a game-high with seven groundballs. Senior Josh Maluta (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) along with Barnard and Cook each scored a hat trick on the afternoon. Maluta also tied with a game-high seven groundballs. Dailey-Chwalibog, Ivey and Tanguay each added in two goals and an assist. Junior Ryan Werhane (Highland Park, Ill./Highland Park) had a game-high two assists while being nearly perfect in faceoffs going 13-for-15.
In goal for the Bulldogs, freshman Matthew Neal (Shelby Twp., Mich./De La Salle) started and made one save in just under five minutes. Fellow freshman Kevin Lerg (Farmington Hills, Mich./Detroit Catholic Central) came on and made four saves in just over 55 minutes of work.
On the day, the Bulldogs outshot Albion 50-to-17. Albion led the Bulldogs in man-up opportunities as the Britons were 2-for-3 while Adrian was 1-for-3. The Bulldogs held a large advantage in groundballs recovered leading the Britons 32-to-20. Adrian was 19-for-28 on faceoffs and went 18-for-20 in clear attempts.
Adrian will welcome in non-conference opponent Wooster College on April 2 for a 4:00 pm game.
